Nykaa Skin Potion Anti-Acne Facial Oil – It Just Works!

Quick read: As someone with very oily and acne-prone skin, especially in hot and humid weather, my experience with Nykaa’s anti-acne facial oil has been very good so far. Regular use of this facial oil has not only cleared my acne but also imparted a healthy glow (not greasiness!) to my skin. I highly recommend it.

Read on for my detailed review

In the recent past I have grown to love the idea of oils on my face. That may sound counter-intuitive for someone with oily skin. I mean, who needs oil on top of oil, right? But facial and essential oils are specially formulated products that do not just sit heavily on the skin in the form of a thick layer of grease. They are able to penetrate the skin, work their magic, and produce impressive results.

That is if you choose the right oil for your skin type as well as for your purpose.

Facial oils are different from essential oils. While essential oils contain the essence of the plants and the plant products they are extracted from, a facial oil is a combination of different types of essential/carrier oils specifically formulated with a specific aim in mind.

They serve a wide variety of purposes, from preventing wrinkles to plumping up the skin. I tried an anti-acne facial oil as it was the most pertinent to my skin condition at the time.

Nykaa Skin Potion Anti–Acne Facial Oil

MRP: Rs. 699

Quantity: 30ml

The Nykaa Skin Potion Anti-Acne Facial Oil was the first proper facial oil I tried. And I tried it because of two main reasons: a) I needed something that directly treated my acne, and b) the product had very good reviews on the Nykaa website.

Also, at only around Rs. 700 I found this oil reasonably priced so I didn’t mind taking a gamble on it. (Each new product is a gamble, isn’t it?)

The packaging

The oil comes in an aesthetically pleasing minty green glass bottle with a dropper. The bottle feels sturdy and the dropper makes the product easy to use. I, however, recommend you do not throw away the external packaging the bottle arrives in and also preserve the original cap. This will help you during travel – the oil won’t leak, which it probably will if you take the bottle with only the dropper screwed on.

My experience with the product

I’ve been using this oil for close to a month now. I take four to five drops of it, mix it with one drop of peppermint essential oil, and apply it to a freshly washed face. I may or may not apply my trusted Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair serum before that. If I’m feeling lazy, this oil is all I apply in the night as part of my skincare regimen. (Note: I only use this oil in the night.)

In just a couple of days of using this oil I noticed a certain calmness on my facial skin. My skin wasn’t breaking out anymore. There was a discernible glow on my face the next day. And the results have stayed the same over the course of the past one month of using it. I purchased this oil when my skin had been breaking out in one pimple after another, for no apparent reason. I had a specific purpose in mind for this oil – treat my acne (as the product promises to do)! I’m now loath to using topical treatments such as Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5% or similar OTC creams. Those are, after all, harsh chemicals that dry up the skin. In my case, they had stopped working anyway. Besides, I find that using a proper facial oil that contains acne-fighting properties is a better alternative as it also nourishes your skin overall, that too free of chemicals. It’s a win-win!

I’m happy to report that I have found something reliable in this regard and I see myself continuing using it. If you have similar problems as I did, I suggest you give this facial oil a try. It’s not expensive and comes with a big number of positive reviews (not just mine).

And if you do end up giving it a try, please connect with me on Instagram to share your experience.

See you later!
