Neutrogena Hydro Boost – Is This the Best Moisturiser for Oily Skin?

Quick read: I love love love this moisturiser by Neutrogena. It’s a boon for those with oily or sensitive skin. It gives you the right kind of hydration, leaving your skin feeling soft and looking plump. It has no side-effects. Honestly, I can’t find any fault with it.

Read on for my detailed review

But first, a little background about my struggle with finding the right moisturiser!

I don’t like moisturisers. Period.

Not because I need to be convinced of their usefulness. And certainly not because I don’t know how to incorporate one into my skincare routine.

Rather, simply because I have rarely, if ever, found one that works. I mean, I find something here and there that works well – but that’s only when the humidity levels are not too high or if the weather is just right. (I’ve largely had the same beef with sunscreens.)

Never have I ever (hey, I could play that game!) found a moisturiser that works in all the seasons. Meaning it nourishes my skin, doesn’t grease me out in any conditions, and makes my skin look hydrated, plump, and fresh. I honestly didn’t think that was even possible! I had all but given up on this (rather important) bit of skincare.

Until I stumbled upon the Neutrogena Hydro Boost water gel a few months ago. Despite wanting to go all organic, I somehow took a chance with it. (Lucky for me, they had a mini size available.) And boy, am I glad that I did!

Price

Rs. 950 for 50g; Rs. 370 for 15g

Availability

Easily available online, especially on trusted websites like Amazon, Myntra, and Nykaa.

What I love about it

The packaging

It’s a pretty glass jar. And a pretty sturdy one, too. The mini size is travel-friendly, but don’t throw it away after it’s finished. This product is used up fast so you will need to buy the standard-sized jar for regular use. But for travel purposes you can scoop the product out of the bigger jar and top up the mini with it.

The formula

It’s a lightweight gel-based formula that is instantly absorbed by the skin. No residue is felt, nor does stickiness emerge at any point. The product claims 24-hr hydration. That might work for some people depending on the weather, but I don’t need my moisturiser to last that long anyway since I wash my face twice a day and reapply the important products in the AM as well as the PM. However, the hydration the product claims is instantly visible. You only need a little product to apply over your face and neck. It glides on very smooth.

This product doesn’t grease up in any weather. Weirdly, it works the same in humid or dry weather for me and now I’m never without it. It’s almost as if the skin drinks it up, regardless of the temperature or the humidity. It gives the skin an instant boost of hydration, as it claims.

My verdict

I cannot recommend this moisturiser more to fellow oily-skinned people. If you have textured oily skin like mine that appears impermeable by any moisturiser, you absolutely must give this a try.
