This is a little bottle full of big promises.
The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% is one of the best-selling and most-loved serums worldwide, used by women of all skin types. And I can see why. It took me a while to come around to picking it up for my skincare routine, and I wish I had done it sooner.
A 30ml bottle will last you a couple of months, as this serum is light enough to be used daily (depending on the other actives in your skincare routine). I use it 4 nights a week. I’m on my second bottle now and I believe this is a good time to give a long-term review.
What this product promises
It will “…significantly reinforce skin barrier function, improve skin smoothness, and increase skin radiance over time.” (from their own website)
It also claims to “reduce the look of blemishes” – in other words, target hyperpigmentation.
My experience with this serum
I noticed increased brightness in my complexion within two or three uses of this serum. So I can attest to the efficacy of this product in that regard.
I’ve also noticed a certain degree of lightness in my pigmentation. On both counts, this serum works. Which is why I’ve given it the highest rating. As far as strengthening the skin barrier is concerned, I’m not sure how to objectively state whether that has happened in my case so I won’t be commenting on that.
However, don’t expect any miracles. You will see changes, but more like small but definite changes than drastic ones. The effectiveness of niacinamide can be bolstered or impacted by other products you use as well. I use this serum along with other actives in my nightly skincare routine, so the way my skin looks is affected by all of them.
On its own, however, this serum is guaranteed to make you happy. Niacinamide is a deservedly-popular, research-backed ingredient that leads to brighter and even complexion over time, and The Ordinary have made an excellent serum that does not irritate, delivers on its promises, and can be used long term. And at such a reasonable price, it makes no sense to not give it a try.
Verdict: Grab it. And make it a part of your regular skincare regimen.
