Quick verdict: The MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot is a high-performing versatile product that everybody should have in their makeup kit. Even those, or especially those, who aren’t too keen on makeup. (Read on for a full review.)
God, I love this little fella.
It’s smooth. It’s beige. It’s eyeshadow. It’s base.
I have the Pro Longwear Paint Pot in the shade Layin’ Low, which I ordered online on a guess that it would be an exact match for my Indian skin tone. (For reference, I’m an NC25 in MAC.) Luckily I was proven right, but I would suggest you trial the shades in-store first.
These pots come in a variety of colours, ranging from softest of nudes to peachy pink and dark chocolate brown. It would help if you picked a shade knowing what you want to use the product for.
I use this as a concealer for the eye area, an eyeshadow base, as well as an eyeshadow in itself. In my experience, the closer the shade is to your skin, the more versatile the pot will prove to be for you.
How to use the Pro Longwear Paint Pot
For those who have never come across this charming little guy, how you use it depends on what you want it to do. Here’s my suggestion.
After you’ve prepped your face and primed your eyes. apply a little bit of the product to the eye area with your finger or brush, whatever you prefer.
I do it with my middle finger (I’m right-handed) as I feel it gives me better control. I dab it all over the eyelids. And voila! I have the smoothest base ever! I could go on and apply further eye shadow or I could just leave it there and go for eyeliner next.
What the Pro Longwear Paint Pot does
- After the application of this product in the shade Layin’ Low (which is practically the colour of my skin), my eye area looks clean and even-toned, since the product picks up oiliness on the lids and also conceals under-eye darkness.
- It provides good even coverage, whilst also keeping the eye area hydrated. The product applies smoothly, there’s no tugging whatsoever. It’s also highly blendable.
- The product is sweat, oil, and humidity-resistant. Your eye makeup will never slip away. I have tested this in Brisbane’s high-humidity summer, so I know what I’m talking about.
- As the name suggests, the product is indeed long-lasting.
- The pot is sturdy, and even though it’s made of glass, it’s small and travel-friendly.
Also, these pots are perfect for a no-makeup makeup look
With just a little bit of concealer, a Pro Longwear Paint pot, an eyebrow brush, and eyeliner, you can create a quick and very chic everyday no-makeup look. Of course, go ahead with a lipstick/liptint of your choice. (I often pair it with MAC Marrakesh, which is as of writing this my favourite lipstick.) Saves time and gives fabulous results.
Final Verdict
A MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot is a nifty little multitasker to have in your makeup arsenal. One pot will last you a long time since you only need a little bit of the product each time. I’ve been using it practically every day for the past few months and have only made a dent in the surface of it.
Given that, its retail price of A$39 seems reasonable. If you ever spot this on sale, just pick it up (though be mindful of the shade). I bought it at full price, and I feel this is very well-priced for what it can do and the amount it offers. Highly recommended, and muchas gracias, MAC.
